MK5 at E3.
I (KungLao@MortalKombat.com) was accompanied to MIDWAY Headquarters at E3 with one of the producers of the third Mortal Kombat movie. We were invited into a private screening of Midway’s video game previews, and were very impressed. There was in fact a short live action Mortal Kombat preview, flashing several dragon medallions, train tracks, blades, drops of blood, and possible new logos thrown roughly into a 30 second teaser. There was also a screenshot of SCORPION from the actual game that briefly flashed over the screen for a second at the most. We will post this picture as soon as we can! (continued on rumor section)

Rumors/Gossip:

This information is strictly speculative and cannot be proven, so if you try to pass it along as factual, we're sending Scorpion after you.

MK5 KONFIRMED FOR
XBOX?
A report from TeamXbox.com has reported Mortal Kombat 5 to be part of Midway's XBox lineup for 2002. Allegedly confirmed by Midway themselves accompanied by their fourth quarter and fiscal year results, a tentative date of SEPTEMBER 30, 2002 has been given for the game's release for the XBox gaming console only. MK5 has previously been confirmed to be released on Nintendo GameCube as well. As no other information was given, we will report this as factual news when this information is officially confirmed.

8-01
TEAM FATALITIES FOR MK5?
Word is MK5 will feature a new addition to their ever-expanding repertoire of finishing moves: team fatalities. This hasn't been confirmed, but it sounds too good to be true. Details on this rumor are sparse, but from what we hear the team fatalities would only be possible if you were in "2 on 2 kombat mode", and your two fighters have some sort of relationship. For example, Jax and Sonya, Liu Kang and Kitana, or Kano and Jarek. No official details on which fighters would make up each team and what their team finishing moves are, but we will report in detail if and when this information becomes available.

NEW MK5 NAME?
(continued from E3 paragraph) However, confirmed rumors from members of the Midway team that Mortal Kombat 5 will not be the video game’s title is true. Midway is looking to name this game with a word, not a number. And remember: there is no concrete way to prove this to be factual, but we’ve got a really good hunch. Write in your one or two words for what you think the game’s name should be, and they will be forwarded to the MK5 team. This is not a contest, so your submissions will not necessarily be viewed or used by Midway, but they will be sent to them and posted on this site. E-Mail KungLao@MortalKombat.com with your suggestions.

<ED_BOON> We are probably going to shy away from the funny stuff, but it wouldn't be a Mortal Kombat game without some humor.

<ED_BOON> If we don't have it by 2002...we are in serious trouble.

<punishaw8> Any chance of the characters showing wear and tear as a fight progresses?

<Kist> Will the Weapon System will be improved?
<ED_BOON> The weapon system will be much more elaborate then in MK4...

<Dolari> Would you describe MK5 as Crunchy, Tasty, Chewie, Sweet, Sour or Slimy? And would it comein a nice honey dijon sauce?
