men from the Order of Light knew if Shang Tsung and Outworld
won their tenth tournament in a row, our world would suffer
an invasion courtesy of Emperor Shao Kahn. That is where Kung
Lao's training came into play.
The most skilled fighter of his generation and a true disciplined and traditional warrior monk, Kung Lao possessed a pure heart and unmatched skills. After he defeated Shang Tsung halting Outworld's chances of a takeover, his only desire was to marry his true love Geneviere Reyland, the daughter of the powerful local Baron. Rayden, his teacher and guide through the tournament demanded Kung Lao train new fighters for the next tournament as it was his destiny to continue fighting in Mortal Kombat. This would postpone his marriage indefinitely, while the Baron forbade Geneviere to marry Kung Lao. This caused the warrior monk much emotional and spiritual anguish, and because the Mortal Kombat champion does not age in between tournaments, it would be a feeling amplified every breathing moment; inescapable torture frozen in time. After his wife to be was murdered by Scorpion, Kung Lao accepted his destiny and relentlessly pursued his goal of repeating as Mortal Kombat champion keeping our realm safe from the dark forces of Outworld and beyond.
With
a knack for doing the right thing, Kung Lao excelled in practicing
peace, patience and the ways of the monks. It was only overshadowed
by his uncanny ability to easily defeat all human opponents,
and most non-human fighters from other realms. But his suppressed
feelings for the loss of Geneviere and haunting nightmares
of his death burned his innocent soul. With Rayden and Kitana's
help along with Taja and Siro, he would endure and counter
several assassination attempts by Shao Kahn, Shang Tsung,
Quan Chi, the Lin Kuei, Black Dragon, Kreeyan armies and many
more, which only validated his Mortal Kombat title. When it
came down to fighting to defend Earth Realm, nobody could
stop him and no one was better. The champion of champions...The
original chosen one...A monk who inspired his people one man
and woman at a time...A Mortal Kombat master who saved the
world.
